Since earning FDA-approval in 2010, CoolSculpting has become one of the most talked about and requested non-invasive body contouring treatments in the world.
Most women and men have heard of the fat-freezing procedure and even know celebrities, friends, or colleagues who rave about their CoolSculpting results.
Despite this notoriety, it’s not uncommon for patients to still wonder: What is CoolSculpting and what areas can I treat?
Continue reading to learn the answer to this question and what you can expect from a CoolSculpting treatment.
What Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved body contouring treatment designed to eliminate stubborn areas of fat. It is completely non-invasive and delivers a patented cooling effect through a variety of applicators.
Each applicator contains panels that cool fat cells to four degrees Celsius in order to induce apoptosis (natural cell death).
Destroyed fat cells are then metabolized and gradually eliminated from the body via the lymphatic system. Within four-to-six weeks, patients can note visible slimming and sculpting of the treatment area. CoolSculpting results typically peak at three months.
What Areas Can CoolSculpting Treat?
CoolSculpting is an extremely versatile procedure and can reduce pockets of fat throughout the body. The abdomen and flanks are two of the most popular treatment areas, as both women and men struggle with excess belly flab that’s resistant to diet and exercise.
CoolSculpting can also eliminate fat from other trouble spots, including the inner and outer thighs, hips, behind the buttocks, back, bra line, upper arms, and chin.
Who’s a Good CoolSculpting Candidate?
Healthy adults, who are within 20-30 pounds of their goal weight and have stubborn bulges, are usually excellent candidates for CoolSculpting. Fatty areas of concern should be pinchable and have defined borders, which allows the tissue to fit into a CoolSculpting applicator.
It’s also important that patients have good skin elasticity and realistic expectations for treatment.
Can CoolSculpting Tighten Skin or Improve Cellulite?
CoolSculpting is not designed to tighten skin or improve the appearance of cellulite. However, it is often used in conjunction with radiofrequency or ultrasound treatments to provide an overall firmer and more toned appearance.
