Boost Your Immune System and Protect Yourself!

During these uncertain times there are a few things you can still do to help boost your immune system and steps you can take to protect yourself. We will talk about some great best practices to help you over the next few weeks!
First of all, a healthy immune system is incredibly important during this pandemic. Make sure you are eating lots of Vitamin C and Vitamin D rich foods. Superfoods with antioxidants are very helpful as well. Should you feel sick or need to recover this type of diet should help!
Vitamin C helps fight the oxidative stress which you will experience due to infection. Vitamin C assists your cells to fight free radicals and cleans up the external threats to your body. Vitamin C rich foods include: oranges, lemons, limes, berries, kiwi, broccoli and tomatoes.
Here is a great smoothie recipe full of Vitamin C and Superfoods, just blend and enjoy:
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 2-3 cups organic spinach
  • 1 knob fresh ginger, peeled (about 2 inches of ginger) or about 1 tsp. powdered
  • 1 knob turmeric root (about 2 inches fresh turmeric) or about 1 tsp. powdered
  • 1/2 tablespoon manuka or raw honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or a just couple grinds)
  • 1/2-3/4 cup almond milk or coconut milk
Other foods that are very important are leafy greens which are high in anti-oxidants. Fresh healthy food during this time will help fight disease, fatigue, and will help you with a sense of normalcy. Try to stock up when you can!
Another tip includes the use of proper hygiene! As adults, most people tend to be a little lax when it comes to basic hygiene. Now is the time to get in better habits. One thing to focus on is proper handwashing. Washing your hands upon entering your house or work is especially important. We also recommend using hand sanitizer if you must leave your house with at least 40% alcohol. Here is a great video to show you the recommended way to wash your hands!
Finally, social distancing will be beneficial, whenever possible maintain a 6 foot radius from others. This will significantly help not to spread COVID-19. It travels through water droplets from coughing and sneezing. Maintain your distance and help to stop the spread of this disease!
Another great idea if you are stuck in the house is finding a routine that works for you! Start the day with yoga, meditation, prayer, reading a book or something that helps you to center yourself if you are working from home or have just become a homeschooler. Try to take everything day by day and find things that inspire you. Be creative, take an afternoon nap (if possible), embrace this rest from the everyday hustle and bustle! Together we will get through this!
